OVERDOSE ALERT!
OVERDOSE ALERT!
Posted October 3, 2025:
There have been numerous fatal overdoses across Southern Illinois in the last 3 weeks. Many of these are occuring in Southeastern Illinois counties (Saline, Gallatin, White, Hamilton, Hardin, Pope).
Drugs sold as cocaine, methamphetamine, heroine, and fentanyl are testing positive for substances such as Xylazine, Nitazenes, and Medetomidine. These are substances are very strong and an overdose typically cannot be reversed with nasal Narcan alone.
The only effective intervention is rescue breathing and calling 911.
IF YOU SUSPECT AN OVERDOSE: Administer Narcan, begin rescue breathing, call 911.
Remember: Illinois’ Good Samaritan Law provides some immunity for the caller and the person experiencing the overdose when seeking emergency help for a suspected overdose.
